My love of large scale works has been percolating under the surface for many years. Studio size and access to affordable materials have been the main deterrents until now. The wood substrates for this collection of earth, water and sky emotive paintings, before climbing their way to these walls, originated on the dusty, well trodden floors of our new construction home builds
What began as my mission to rescue perfectly usable materials from the dump, turned into a collection of vibrant artworks that have their own lifecycle. The 3/16" fibrous base material is what we use to protect the floors during construction on our jobsites. After their usefulness diminishes on site I take the boards to my studio where they become my work table. After layers of overspray, cut marks, glues and paint drops deepen the story, I dive into the creation of colorful works with bold movements and complete abandon. I imagine this is how God created the Heavens and the Earth.
Lost in the moments of color, joy, prayer and endless curiosity, the panels are born. They have tattered edges, sometimes holes and built in layers of history. I could say the story is rich enough to end there, but it doesn’t. Originally I created this collection of 48x96 wood panels with the intention of deconstructing them for wall collage sculptures. But some of the paintings feel very successful and worthy of display. These pieces are temporarily made available for purchase as full panels.
Get them before they evolve into their next life……
